April 24, 2026 I’m writing to announce that the DLL Catalog will transition to a static, archival resource over the next few months. When the Digital Latin Library was launched over a decade ago, options for finding and reading Latin texts online were far more limited. Since then, a wide range of collections and tools has emerged, making it less useful to attempt a comprehensive catalog in this space.
The Next Stage for the DLL Catalog
August 2, 2024 As I mentioned in the last update, this site has been more or less static for a few years, for a variety of reasons. Chief among them was that I wanted to buttress the DLL’s sustainability by reducing the entire project’s technical overhead. Now that I have found a better hosting solution and I’ve moved the other sites to static site generators, I have had time to focus on upgrading and updating the DLL Catalog’s codebase. The original version of this site ran on Drupal 7, an open-source content management system (CMS). My colleague June Abbas and I developed the content model, and I developed the back end. Since no one on the project was a graphic designer, we budgeted some funds to pay Fíonta to design the theme, or overall look of the site.
DLL Catalog Site Upgraded and Updated
May 12, 2024 Although other parts of the Digital Latin Library have been under active development for the past several years, development of this site has been frozen since the last update a few years ago. I haven’t updated this blog because there hasn’t been much to say. That is about to change, so I’m writing this post to let you know what’s been going on behind the scenes. I’ll write another post soon about what’s coming for this site. The challenge of keeping up with the pace of technology is one of the factors contributing to the long pause in this site’s development. Maintaining the server that hosts the DLL’s site is a big part of that challenge.
